The process of
Sport Psychology

How do we start?
We understand that you may be new to sports psychology or simply want to see if McConn Psychology is the right fit for you before going any further. That’s why we offer a free 15-minute intro meeting via Zoom, as it gives you the chance to get a better feel for how we work.
If you’re ready to book one now, please call 07501 950010 or fill in our contact form. Alternatively, read on to discover what our sessions involve and how they will benefit both your sports career and personal wellbeing.
Following the intro meeting, our work begins with a needs analysis that determines any issues and explores routes for overcoming them. This intake session involves gathering background information on you both personally and professionally, as sometimes an issue may be routed in a seemingly unconnected area of life. We can then set a goal and work to it with clarity and focus from the very start.
What happens next?
What do the sessions look like?
Having assessed the situation and designed a personal development plan, each subsequent session will revolve around a range of educational themes. These will vary depending on your individual needs, although common examples are how to master emotional regulation, foster concentration and maintain a positive outlook even during the most demanding times.
Certain activities may also be assigned between sessions, such as resources that are to be listened to, watched or read in your spare time. Just as crucially, you will be actively encouraged to find your own answers along the way, which the sessions will enable you to achieve with confidence.

How often do sessions occur?
The sessions will take place on either a weekly or fortnightly basis and each one lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. Consistency is key, so we will work together to ensure that the sessions take place on the same day and at the same time of each given week.
